'Never slaughter a chicken in front of a monkey'

Photobucket

A Chinese man who saved a one-armed, one-legged monkey says the primate has paid him back - by killing all of his chickens. Li Chun, from Menghai village, Yunnan province, says the monkey has become a member of his family since he nursed it back to health. It has become to devoted to the family and performs many chores around the home - but it also copies everything Li does.

When it saw him crack some eggs to make a meal it went into the hen coop and smashed all of the eggs it could find. And when Li slaughtered a chicken, the monkey copied him and has since killed about 80 chickens. "From then on, whenever it's not occupied, it jumps into the chicken pen, and kills the chickens, no matter how big or small, and tries to pluck them," said Li.

"His record is nine chickens in one day. The lesson I have learned is to never slaughter a chicken in front of a monkey." Li found the seriously injured monkey in a forest more than a year ago when it jumped into a basket on his back. He found the monkey's right arm and left leg were rotten and took it home where he cut off the decayed limbs and gave it anti-inflammatory medication.

He nursed the monkey back to health and it made an astonishing recovery, putting on weight and soon started to help around the home. It helps look after Li's dog's puppies and even wiped away Li's tears when he was grieving the death of his father. Li said: "It sat besides me quietly and extended his only arm to wipe the tears on my face. He would softly pat my face and head, and look at me with great sympathy."

New York divorce judge orders couple to build wall down middle of home

A New York judge ordered a warring couple to build a wall down the middle of their home in an effort to stop their petty squabbling. Judge Eric Prus told Pinchs and Nechama Gold, an Orthodox Jewish couple who lived in the same house through years of marital strife, to split their home in half as they go through a bitter divorce. In a ruling passed on Thursday, the Golds were told they have two weeks to agree on where the wall should go in their home in the New York borough of Brooklyn - or the court will decide for them.

"They've been living like there was a wall up for two years now," said Abe Konstam, an attorney for Pinchs Gold. "This just helps them completely avoid each other." The Golds married 21 years ago, but after years of arguments, the wife, who claims her husband verbally abuses her and their five children, just wants him to pack his bags. She claims he even spitefully blows out their Shabbos candles. Pinchs denies those allegations.

Pinchs Gold, meanwhile, claims Nechama Gold hides his heart medication. She also banished him from the bedroom, he claims, forcing him to sleep for two years in their dining room. On May 18, her lawyer asked the court for temporary exclusive occupancy. The judge's response took a more divide-and-conquer approach to the hostilities.

"It's a large house, so I think we can come up with some sort of agreement," conceded Nechama Gold's lawyer, Brian Perskin. "But she wants him out." The plans drawn up allots Nechama Gold about 700 more square feet because the kids will live with her. "This could be called the Divorce Wall," said Rabbi Mendel Gold, Pinchs Gold's brother. "It could probably even help healthy couples."

Florida woman charged after giving away neighbor's trailer on Craigslist

The 29-year-old resident of Chelsea Meadows apartments got sick of looking at a trailer loaded with furniture in the complex parking lot, Pasco County deputies say.

So she took matters into her own hands by taking a picture of it and posting an advertisement on Craigslist, deputies say.

"Come get this trailer, attach it to your car and get it out of here," it read. "I'm tired of looking at it, and I have no idea what to do with it. You must take couches and dresser too either keep them or dispose of them, just get them out of here! Thank you! No need to email or call just come get it," it stated. The ad continued with specific directions to the complex. "The trailer is sitting in the parking lot ready to be attached to the car and take. I will delete this post when it is gone. Thank you!"

The problem, deputies say, is the trailer or the furniture didn't belong to her. It belonged to a new tenant, Robert Andrews.

On Thursday, deputies arrested Vanessa Kimball, 29, on a charge of grand theft.

Andrews, 24, said he was at work when the theft occurred. His fiancee, Jennifer Lepage, also 24, was home when someone knocked on the door looking for the free trailer.

She said it wasn't free and looked outside and saw it had vanished, Andrews said.

He came home from work immediately and reported it stolen.

At some point, another person came over looking for the freebie and had the printed advertisement in hand and waited for deputies to arrive.

"If he had not had printed it out, I would have had no way of proving to the deputy that it was on Craigslist because by that time it had been deleted," Andrews said.

He said the trailer actually belonged to his father and he had a tough time explaining it to him.

Andrews had used it to move and was preparing to go to the dump with old furniture but hadn't had the time in a week to move it since he works every day.

"I just can't believe someone would put someone else's property on Craigslist," Andrews said.

By the next day, according to a sheriff's office report, Kimball was nowhere to be found, but the trailer reappeared - still loaded with the furniture - at the end of the complex's driveway at 4427 Dylan Loop.

The return, however, didn't come without problems. The trailer is damaged, he said.

"Now we have the trailer back, but we can't use it," he said, adding that they can't afford the repair.

Kimball, who reportedly has moved out of her apartment, was released from jail early Friday after posting $2,000 bail.

Reunion of girl and orang-utan sealed with a hug

Photobucket

The last time Emily Bland met Rishi the orang-utan, they were both still at the crawling stage.

So when the pair were reunited two years later, there was a whole new world of play to explore.

The three-year-olds spent a blissful afternoon climbing, swinging from rings and tyres, pedalling around on a plastic tricycle and sometimes pausing for a hug in scenes reminiscent of the 'I Wanna Be Like You' sequence in the Disney film of The Jungle Book.

Rishi lives with his adopted family of four older orang-utans at the Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species (TIGERS) in Miami, Florida.

His first day of play with Emily came in 2008 when her father Barry, a photographer, had an assignment at the institute and took her along.

'Rishi loved Emily pouring water over his head in the paddling pool,' said her mother Sophie. 'Their play together was so alike it was amazing.

'When we told Emily we were going to visit Rishi again she was very excited. She has often talked about Rishi and if you ask her to name her friends, he's always included.'

All the animals at the institute are allowed to roam free.

Director Dr Bhagavan Antle said: 'Even though Rishi loves his orang-utan family, he is the youngest and likes to play.

'It was a wonderful day for both of them. It was fun for him to play with her but also just hugging her and enjoying a relaxing day.'
