The results of a survey done in England indicates that nearly 1/3 of all Brits have injured themselves within the last year while in the throes of passion.
Pulled muscles are the most common complaint, followed by back injuries, carpet burns, cricked neck and bent back fingers.
Five per cent of the adult population have had to take time off work due to sex-related injuries.
Two per cent have even suffered broken bones because things got so heated.
Researchers found around one third of Britons have suffered an ache or strain either before, during or after sex.
Almost half said they only realised their injury the following morning because they were so overcome with passion at the time they were hurt.
Given some of the favored locations for lovemaking, the injuries shouldn't come as a surprise.
The survey of 1,000 adults found many having sex on the stairs, in the car, over the kitchen table and in the office cupboard.
Even the sofa was found to be risky because of its close proximity to glasses, plates and other breakable items. Such sex can also hit you hard in the pocket.
The study found almost four in ten had broken something during sex - with the average cost of damage about $225.
Bed frames, wine or pint glasses and picture frames were the most regular casualties.
Accidentally smashing a hole in a wall also featured as did breaking chests of drawers or doors. Ten per cent of people said they or their partner had fallen off the bed during sex and one in 50 said they had fallen off a washing machine.
A spokesman for phone recycling business Phonepiggybank.com, which commissioned the poll, said: 'Sex is a risky business these days.
'There are numerous hazards in and around the home which can inflict severe injuries if people aren't careful.
'We were amazed to find out that even the bedroom can prove a hazardous location for certain people.
'Our advice would be to remove any dangerous objects well before you plan to start making love and take care while in the act.'
