NY Family Welcomes Third Set of Twins
And then there were six.
Just in time for Father's Day, a twin-prone Brooklyn mom welcomed home another two new bundles of joy from the hospital Thursday.
"It's going to be a full house now," said elated mom Gezime Amer.
The normally reserved dad, Adel Amer, 45, could not fight tears as he gently took the two boys, Mohammed and Sayed, into his arms. "This is a gift from God. I think it's worth it," he said. "I mean, look at them."
Gezime Amer, 37, found out she was genetically prone after she gave birth to two boys, Abdulah and Rahman, 12 years ago. Two years later, twin girls, Kerima and Zenebe, were born. When she found out she had become naturally pregnant with twins again, she could not believe her luck.
"If God wants to give us more twins, we may have eight kids in this house," the mom quipped.
Only 15 of 26,000 members of the National Organization of Mothers of Twins have reported giving birth to multiple sets of twins.
"Many people are having twins thanks to fertility drugs, but it is very difficult to have them naturally," said Amer's doctor, Ayman Shahine.
Mohammed and Sayed were born on June 6 - 34 weeks into Gezime's pregnancy. They stayed at the Brooklyn Hospital Center for 11 days for observation, doctors said.
"I'm going to teach them to be themselves and not let anyone else tell them who they are going to be," said proud big sister Zenebe, 10.
The extra joy also will mean extra hardship. The Amers plan to tighten their belts to make do on dad's $32,000-a-year salary as a hardware store manager. "We don't have a lot of money, but we will make sure they have a bright future," Gezime Amer said. "We'll be fine as long as we are all together."
