California woman sets fire to roommate, sits and watches her burn

Chasety Reynolds (l.) is charged with setting her roommate, Victoria de la Fuente (r.), on fire. De la Fuente suffered second- and third-degree burns over more than half her body

A merciless California woman doused her roommate with gasoline and torched her with a lit cigarette before taking a seat to watch the writhing victim burn, authorities say.

Chasety Reynolds, 32, remained jailed Friday on $550,000 bail in the gruesome assault against Victoria de la Fuente, who suffered burns over more than half her body.

"I have never seen a case as disturbing as this," Police Commander Steve Rossi told a news conference in Lemoore, Calif.

When cops were called to the scene by a terrified good Samaritan, they found Reynolds cleaning off her driveway with a hose - while the badly-burned victim was a few feet away inside their home.

Reynolds' two kids, ages 9 and 12, were home when their mother set her roommate on fire, police said.

Reynolds, after igniting the woman, sat on the garage floor and watched as the flames engulfed de la Fuenta. A passing motorist who saw the fire rescued the burning woman as Reynolds stood impassively.

"Chasety ain't a human being," the victim's son, Michael Ybarra, told KSEE-TV. "There ain't nothing human about her."

The 46-year-old victim was listed in critical condition with second- and third-degree burns at the Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, Calif.

Authorities were unsure what sparked the attack, although cops were called to the pair's home about an hour earlier when neighbors reported a loud argument between two women.

Reynolds greeted the responding officers, telling them everything was fine, before the dispute resumed and escalated.

Witness in Florida robbery trial faints; stinky sneaker fails to revive her

Falguni Patel was just a little ways into her testimony Wednesday when it all became too much.

The prosecutor showed Patel the knife used by the masked robber who held up her convenience store in 2009. Patel, already shaking and on the verge of tears, flopped back in the witness chair, unconscious.

Circuit Judge Michael Andrews had the jury taken out of the room. A bailiff called for an ambulance.

Then everyone waited. It was the defendant who finally spoke up, wondering aloud if Patel was breathing.

She was. She had fainted.

Another bailiff brought in a family member, who in an apparent attempt to revive Patel, removed a sneaker and held it up to her face, perhaps like smelling salts. The woman told bailiffs that Patel is prone to fainting and she frequently uses this technique to revive her.

Patel didn't wake up.

After paramedics arrived, Patel was wheeled out on a stretcher and reported to be resting at home in the afternoon. She is expected to take the stand again today.

This all happened during day two of the trial of 32-year-old Morgan Armstrong, charged with armed robbery in the October 2009 holdup at Beverages Plus on State Road 52 in Hudson.

Against the advice of the judge and attorneys, Armstrong is representing himself. He went to trial earlier this year in another convenience store robbery, represented by a lawyer who won him a not guilty verdict.

But in time Armstrong came to believe the lawyer was working against him with prosecutors, and now insists on going it alone.

He was no less suspicious of those in the courtroom Wednesday.

"I'm absolutely positive you people have done nothing but violate my due process," Armstrong declared before reading a long missive on the topic.

When Assistant State Attorney Ryan McGee called a deputy to testify about searching with his police dog for the robber around the convenience store, Armstrong asked just one question.

"Did you find anybody?" Armstrong asked.

The answer was no.

JOKE: LAST NIGHT'S DREAM

Becky woke up and told Sam, her husband, about her last night's dream. "I was at an auction for penises. The big ones sold for $1,000 and the tiny ones as low as $10."

Sam asked "What about one my size?"

To which Becky replied: "Didn't get a bid!"

Sam wanted revenge, so the next morning he told Becky about his dream."I was at an auction for vaginas. The really tight one's sold for$1,000 and the loose ones for $10."

Becky asked "What about ones like mine?"

To which Sam responded, "That's where they held the auction."

Indian train travelled hundreds of miles in the wrong direction before anyone noticed

A packed commuter train sped hundreds of miles across India in the wrong direction before passengers finally realized it was pulling into an unfamiliar station. The locomotive left the southern town of Tirupati Tuesday for the eastern city of Bhubaneswar, where it was due to swing north to its eventual destination of Varanasi, a city in northeastern India.

But bewildered passengers noticed something was amiss when it chugged into Warangal - a central Indian city on an entirely different route some 600 miles (980km) west of its intended stop at Bhubaneswar.

The express train had managed to cross three of India's railway divisions and travel hundreds of miles without anyone noticing it had lost its way. The mistake was believed to have arisen because it was given an incorrect destination code, compounded by the fact it was a special service and many of the staff were unfamiliar with the route.

The train was eventually rerouted along a different line and completed its 1,400 mile (2,300km) journey safely. "Though the journey was agonizing, we thank our stars that the train did not run into another train," one of its more-than 1000 weary passengers said.
