Baby Glutton the breastfeeding doll. A 'sucky' idea?

Because you shouldn't have to wait until you have breasts before you start breastfeeding your baby.

Baby Glutton the breastfeeding doll. A 'sucky' idea?

by Eric Ruhalter

For the child who has everything... A Breastfeeding Doll?!?!? Spanish toymaker Berjuan is proud to present (against their better judgment, I hope) Bebe Gloton, the first-ever breastfeeding doll. First-ever! I bet that's true. Because it's a bad idea. If I invented the combination Baby-Changing Table/Table Saw it would be the "first-ever." But that doesn't make it a good idea. I could easily be the first to market the "Shotgun-Rattle," too. Or the "Rooftop car seat." Am I digressing? I always do that!

The purpose of Bebe Gloton (Spanish for, roughly, "Gluttonous Baby",) allegedly, to promote breastfeeding. Reaching children early with the idea that breastfeeding is natural. However, of course it's natural!!! I don't think any mom (pre-teen or otherwise) is contesting the fact that breastfeeding is healthy and natural. I think it's the clogged ducts and the cracked nipples that put them off.

I'm all for breastfeeding. But, as a man, I'm quite certain no one cares what I think about it. My very courageous and unselfish wife breast fed our children for over a year apiece (including a set of twins.) I think it was great, and they grew strong and healthy, without costing us a nickel on baby formula.

To "play" with this toy, the young girl (or boy I suppose?) puts on a halter/bra type vestment and Bebe Gloton suckles on it around the nipple area. Weird. And I'm not sure that as elementary-school-aged children we need to be plugging anything too specific in terms of baby rearing. Especially right before they hit puberty and we start beating it into their heads that it'd better be a loooooong time before they get pregnant. Let's find a way to market the notion of breastfeeding to people who are approaching that stage in their life. I'd like to think that there's a less creepy way to instill the notion of breastfeeding in the minds of children if that's really something that it's necessary to do.

What's next? Bebe Sot - The doll who has a problem with a different kind of bottle, and loses his family, job and feelings of self worth? ? Bebe Limp - The male doll who experiences erectile dysfunction? Bebe Cell Mate - A weak unimposing doll that experiences all the indignation and humiliation of life in prison. Toy themes should be age appropriate. I think so anyway.

murder weapon was a prescription pain patch

murder weapon was a prescription pain patch

A Burnsville Minnesota woman has been charged with third-degree murder for allegedly giving a Bloomington man at least half her prescription pain patch to chew on in exchange for marijuana.

The Hennepin County medical examiner determined the Bloomington man died in February by overdosing on Fentanyl, a powerful narcotic in the patch said to be dozens of times as strong as morphine.

Bloomington police arrested Shelbi Lynn Svare, 49, on Thursday, and she was held in lieu of $500,000 bail. The charge was filed by the Hennepin County attorney's office.

"It took some time for the medical examiner's reports," said Bloomington police Cmdr. Mark Stehlik. "The biggest part of it was the toxicology tests, which isn't a real quick process."

On the morning of Feb. 10, Bloomington police responded to an emergency call in the 9100 block of Lyndale Avenue, where they discovered the victim not breathing, according to a criminal complaint. Police and paramedics were unable to revive him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The medical examiner later listed the cause of death as "Fentanyl toxicity."

"Investigators learned that Svare gave the victim her prescribed prescription Fentanyl, which ultimately caused the victim's death," says a Bloomington police statement.

The victim's girlfriend told a police detective that he used illegal and prescription drugs, according to the criminal complaint filed against Svare.

The girlfriend said that on the night of Feb. 9, he seemed to pass out in her lap as Svare drove the three of them to his residence. Svare then told her she had given him half her pain patch, the complaint states. Svare and the victim's girlfriend got the victim inside his home with the help of the building caretaker.
The girlfriend claimed he was breathing when she went to bed. "When she woke up, he wasn't breathing and she was unable to revive him," the complaint states.

Interviewed by police, Svare allegedly denied giving the victim the patch and said he took it from her purse when she wasn't looking.

She later called police and recanted, saying she had given him half a patch in return for some marijuana, according to the complaint. "She stated that on a previous occasion, she had given (him) a whole patch in exchange for marijuana and knew that he got sick when he chewed it," the complaint says.

Dr. Scott Seidman, a physician with the American Medical Forensic Specialists in Emeryville, Calif., said Fentanyl is an opioid, like morphine or codeine, but "roughly 100 times as strong as morphine."

Fentanyl patches are meant to be worn once every three days and are typically prescribed in connection with cancer treatment and chronic back pain, he said. Heavy doses can dull brain receptors to the point where the respiratory system shuts down.

While there have been several recalls of certain types of Fentanyl patches, Seidman said, deaths are usually attributed to instances in which a patient has been prescribed too high a dose, a child has gotten hold of a patch, or a person has been chewing on one for a heroin-like high.

The murder charge against Svare carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and a $40,000 fine. According to state statute, third-degree murder is unintentional murder by a dangerous act of depravity or selling, distributing or administering certain types of controlled substances.

In October, Svare pleaded guilty in Dakota County District Court to a misdemeanor charge of tampering with a motor vehicle and entering it without the owner's permission. A theft charge was dropped, and documents show she was sentenced to five days of community service and a year of supervised probation.

The sentencing order indicates she was also to "take all (prescription) medication, follow mental health plan ... follow all instructions of probation."

In February 2008, Svare pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft in Dakota County District Court. She was sentenced to a year of probation.

Whale saves drowning diver

Whale saves drowning diver A beluga whale saved a drowning diver by hoisting her to the surface, carrying her leg in its mouth. Terrified Yang Yun thought she was going to die when her legs were paralysed by crippling cramps in arctic temperatures.

She had been taking part in a free diving contest WITHOUT any breathing equipment. Competitors had to sink to the bottom of an aquarium's 20ft arctic pool and stay there for as long as possible amid the beluga whales at Polar Land in Harbin, north east China. But when Yun, 26, tried to head to the surface she struggled to move her legs. Lucky Yun said: "I began to choke and sank even lower and I thought that was it for me - I was dead. Until I felt this incredible force under me driving me to the surface." Beluga whale Mila had spotted her difficulties and using her sensitive dolphin-like nose guided Yun safely to the surface. An organiser said: "Mila noticed the problem before we did. "We suddenly saw the girl being pushed to the top of the pool with her leg in Mila's mouth. "She's a sensitive animal who works closely with humans and I think this girl owes her, her life.

*This explains why I forward jokes*

man and his dog

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.

He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, 'Excuse me, where are we?'

'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered. 'Wow! Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked.

'Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up.' The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

'Can my friend,' gesturing toward his dog, 'come in, too?' the traveler asked.

'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.'

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence.

As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

'Excuse me!' he called to the man. 'Do you have any water?'

'Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in.'

'How about my friend here?' the traveler gestured to the dog.

'There should be a bowl by the pump.'

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.

The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.

'What do you call this place?' the traveler asked.

'This is Heaven,' he answered.

'Well, that's confusing,' the traveler said. 'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.'

'Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell.'

'Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?'

'No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.'

Soooo...

Sometimes, we wonder why friends keep forwarding jokes to us without writing a word.

Maybe this will explain.

When you are very busy, but still want to keep in touch, guess what you do? You forward jokes.

When you have nothing to say, but still want to keep contact, you forward jokes.

When you have something to say, but don't know what, and don't know how, you forward jokes.

Also, to let you know that you are still remembered, you are still important, you are still loved, and that you are still cared for, guess what you get?

A forwarded joke.

So, next time if you get a joke, don't think that you've been sent just another forwarded joke, but that you've been thought of today and your friend on the other end of your computer wanted to send you a smile.

the Leopard and the Bold Mouse

This mouse diced with death when it tucked into the lunch of a hungry leopard. Seemingly unaware of the beast towering over it, the mischievous rodent grabbed at scraps of meat thrown into the African Leopard's enclosure. But instead of pouncing on the tiny intruder the 12-year-old leopard, called Sheena, appeared to be afraid of the daring mouse and kept her distance. At one stage she tried to nudge the mouse away with her nose, but the determined little chap carried on chewing away until he was full.

Photobucket

The extraordinary scene was captured by photography student Casey Gutteridge at the Santago Rare Leopard Project in Hertfordshire. The 19-year-old, from Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, who was photographing the leopard for a course project, was astounded by the mouse's behavior. He said: 'I have no idea where the mouse came from - he just appeared in the enclosure after the keeper had dropped in the meat for the leopard. 'He didn't take any notice of the leopard, just went straight over to the meat and started feeding himself. 'But the leopard was pretty surprised - she bent down and sniffed the mouse and flinched a bit like she was scared. 'In the meantime the mouse just carried on eating like nothing had happened.

but even a gentle shove does not deter the little creature from getting his fill... 'It was amazing, even the keeper who had thrown the meat into the enclosure was shocked - he said he'd never seen anything like it before.' Project owner Jackie James added: 'It was so funny to see - Sheena batted the mouse a couple of times to try to get it away from her food. 'But the determined little thing took no notice and just carried on Sheena was brought in to the Santago Rare Leopard Project from a UK zoo when she was just four months old. She is one of 14 big cats in the private collection started by Jackie's late husband Peter in 1989. so the mouse continued to eat the leopard's lunch and show the leopard who was boss.

Naked girls plow fields for rain

BANANA DANCERS

PATNA, India (Reuters) – Farmers in an eastern Indian state have asked their unmarried daughters to plow parched fields naked in a bid to embarrass the weather gods to bring some badly needed monsoon rain, officials said on Thursday.
Witnesses said the naked girls in Bihar state plowed the fields and chanted ancient hymns after sunset to invoke the gods. They said elderly village women helped the girls drag the plows.
"They (villagers) believe their acts would get the weather gods badly embarrassed, who in turn would ensurebumper crops by sending rains," Upendra Kumar, a village council official, said from Bihar's remote
"This is the most trusted social custom in the area and the villagers have vowed to continue this practice until it rains very heavily."
India this year suffered its worst start to the vital monsoon rains in eight decades, causing drought in some states.
