A 10-year-old child said she was scared to say "no" to her two baby sitters when they asked the child to watch them have sex and view a pornographic movie, according to prosecutors.
Seneca Ryan, 31, and Stacey Conklin, 22, both of Weston,Wisconsin were charged Monday in Marathon County Circuit Court with exposing a child to harmful material and three counts of causing a child to view or listen to sexual activity. Each faces up to a 41-year prison sentence if convicted on all counts.
The girl's mother asked Ryan and Conklin to watch the child July 8 through July 10 at their Weston home while she was moving into a new apartment, according to police. The child told investigators that on July 8, she asked a question about the appropriateness of a sex act, and Ryan and Conklin demonstrated for about 30 minutes how to use sex accessories, according to a criminal complaint.
Later that night, the child was invited to watch Ryan and Conklin have sex for more than 90 minutes, police said. The child said she again was made to watch sexual acts July 9.
During Monday's court hearing, Marathon County Assistant District Attorney Tamera Hansen said the child was afraid to not watch the sexual acts because Ryan spanked the child in the past.
The child also said that Ryan once put furry handcuffs and shackles on the child's legs when she misbehaved, according to the complaint.
Ryan and Conklin's attorneys tried to convince Marathon County Circuit Court Judge Jill Falstad that their clients should not be held in the Marathon County Jail.
Attorney Ryan Lister argued that Ryan works 60 hours a week and can't afford to lose a good job. Attorney Peter Rotter told Falstad that Conklin is scheduled to undergo a colonoscopy and an endoscopy on Friday to resolve an ongoing medical issue.
Falstad was not swayed, and ordered both Ryan and Conklin held in jail on $15,000 cash bonds.
