Hawktree golf course, north of Bismark in North Dakota, has introduced five adult goats in a bid to tackle its noxious weeds.
Course superintendent Eric Stromstad says he got the idea from Ireland, where resorts such as the Lahinch Golf Club have been using goats for decades.
Stromstad said, "They`ll strip down the leaves and they`ll leave the stemming material of the plant and they just grind up everything really good. There`s not much foliage passed through their system."
The weed-whacking goats have gone down well with Hawktree's regulars, and are becoming an attraction in their own right.
Golf pro Chuck Ruppert said: "They`re friendly, people stop by, they feed them, they talk to them. They want to pet them, so it`s kind of been a topic of conversation at Hawktree."
