A man decided to have a facelift for his birthday. He spends $5,000 and feels really good about the result. On his way home he stops at a newsstand and buys a paper. Before leaving he says to the sales clerk, "I hope you don't mind me asking, but how old do you think I am?"
"About 35."
"Actually, I'm 47," says the man, feeling really happy. He goes into a McDonald's for lunch and asks the clerk the same question.
"Oh, you look about 29."
"Actually, I'm 47." Now he feels really good. Standing at the bus stop, he asks an old woman the same question.
She replies, "I'm 85 years old and my eyesight is going. But when I was young, we had a sure way of telling a man's age. Since no one was around, the man thought, "what the hell?" and allowed her to have her way.
The old lady smiled and in a few minutes said, "You're 47."
The man was stunned. "Amazing! How did you do that?"
The old lady smiled. "I was in line behind you at McDonald's!"

This is the mighty CRH500, China’s new record-train, its target is to break through the 500 km/h (310.685 mi) barrier. the CRH500 is officially called a test train but it is in fact the first of a new series real-world trains from manufacturer CSR Sifang Locomotive. The trains will run on China’s brand-new high-speed railway network.
Before that, the 500km/h has to be breached. There are many different records for high-speed trains, see Wiki, but the record China wants to break is in the category ‘Top Speed, Conventional Wheeled’. The current record stands at 487.3 km/h (302.8 mi) and was set by China’s CRH380 with a 16-car trainset in January this year on the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway.
The all-time high-speed record by a conventional wheeled train was set by a purpose-built French TGV in 2007. Top speed was 574.8 km/h (357.18 mi). This TGV was a one-off test vehicle in the category ‘Special built trains for test only’.
The design of the new train is said to be inspired by ‘a Chinese sword’. When China will attempt to break the record is unknown. China mostly doesn’t say anything until the record is actually broken. There is still a lot of secrecy surrounding the high-speed train development and this CRH500 is a case in point.

VIDEO: Qatari police have a gigantic fleet of Porsches
Qatar's recent National Day parade was like that in many other countries: it featured military and police vehicles. Unlike those other countries, Qatar has cash to burn and a sultan's taste for the good life. The vehicles of choice? Porsche Cayennes and Panameras.
It's not unusual to hear about police departments that have a supercar as a showpiece or a special-duty vehicle, but a fleet of them is well outside the norm. Of course, the same is also true about Qatar. To say that the Connecticut-sized desert peninsula has some extra change in the sofa cushions is a bit of an understatement: Qatar essentially floats on oil and natural gas, and has the highest per-capita GDP on Earth.
There may be more rational choices for police duty than the super-luxe Porsches (like the Toyota Land Cruisers tucked further back in line in the video below), and Qatar is hardly infested with criminals in the first place, but a bit of extra high-speed pursuit capability never hurts. The government-controlled Qatar Holdings investment authority also holds a good quantity of Porsche and Volkswagen AG shares, so why not?
Video: Man in underwear crashes stolen police SUV
A video released today by the Blackman-Leoni Township Public Safety Department shows Friday's dramatic chase ending in a crash near the Ohio border.
Ryan Elliott Cunningham, 34, was arraigned today on seven felony charges connected to the chase. He is accused of escaping from police custody, stealing a patrol vehicle and leading officers on a high-speed, multi-county chase that ended when he crashed near the Ohio border.
The video is from the in-car camera of the stolen Blackman-Leoni Township Public Safety Department Chevy Tahoe. It shows the SUV speeding away from the Colonial Inn Motel in Leoni Township with officers chasing on foot.
Ryan Elliott Cunningham was arraigned Tuesday afternoon on seven felonies, including two methamphetamine-related charges, three firearm charges, auto theft and fleeing a police officer.On the highway, the SUV weaves through traffic, uses both shoulders and perhaps side-swipes a guardrail. On U.S. 23, the SUV splits traffic stopped by police, drives down the center line, bounces off vehicles and crashes.
During the crash, the camera changes angles and shows the driver sitting in his underwear.

A female CNN journalist heard about a very old Jewish man who had been going to the Western Wall to pray, twice a day, every day, for a long, long time.
So she went to check it out. She went to the Western Wall and there he was, walking slowly up to the holy site.

Girl's pearl find could be worth thousands
Portia Himsel thought she had found a marble in a shell while playing at a Banks Peninsula beach on Boxing Day, but she may have stumbled on one of New Zealand's most valuable pearls.
The Halswell 6-year-old was at the water's edge at a bay near Birdlings Flat when a partly opened grey shell caught her eye.
"I threw a rock at it and it didn't move," she said.
"That's why I opened it up and I saw the pearl. I didn't really think much when I saw it.
"I thought it was a marble. I pulled it out and showed Mum and Dad."
Her father, Daniel Himsel, said they initially had trouble believing it was the real thing.
"It seems perfectly round. That's why we didn't think it was real, but she said she found it in a shell," he said.
"I don't know anyone who's ever found a pearl before."
Portia waited some time before showing her father, mother Megan and sister Claudia, 9, her find.
Daniel Himsel said Portia first held the pearl in her hand for safekeeping and then left it in the pocket of a tent.
"We've taken better care of it since," he said.
Roger Beattie, of Eyris Blue Pearls in Christchurch, said Portia's pearl "could be the find of the year".
"I've never seen a good-quality large oyster pearl in New Zealand," he said.
"It's got good lustre, it's a white pearl. It's smooth and it's large and it looks pretty round."
The pearl, 12 millimetres in diameter, would be worth thousands of dollars to the right collector, he said.
"This is what they call a free pearl.
"Free pearls are worth more than one that's attached to the shell.
"And it's a natural pearl, which is worth more than cultured pearls," he said.
"My guess is it's from a New Zealand oyster shell. I would call it double-A probably. It's good quality."
AAA is the highest grade of pearl.
The Himsels have not decided what they will do with the pearl but will consider getting it valued.

Video: Crocodile vs Lawnmower
A crocodile named Elvis charged at an Australian reptile park worker before stealing his lawn mower. The 50-year-old croc lost two teeth in the attack, which occurred after a zookeeper tried to cut the lawn in his enclosure.
Zookeepers eventually retrieved the lawnmower by distracting the crocodile with some kangaroo meat.
Elvis has a history of cranky behavior and has occasionally confronted staff before, though this is the first time he has stolen something from workers. The crocodile was initially captured in the northern Australian city of Darwin, where he had been attacking fishing boats. He was then moved to a crocodile farm, where he killed two female crocodiles.

Mount Washington is the highest peak in the Northeastern United States at 6,288 ft (1,917 m), famous for dangerously erratic weather. For 76 years, a weather observatory on the summit held the record for the highest wind gust directly measured at the Earth's surface, 231 mph (372 km/h) (or 103 m/s), on the afternoon of April 12, 1934.[4] It was known as Agiocochook, or "Home of the Great Spirit", before European settlers arrived.[5]
The mountain is located in the Presidential Range of the White Mountains, in the township of Sargent's Purchase, Coos County, New Hampshire. While nearly the whole mountain is in the White Mountain National Forest, an area of 59 acres (0.24 km2) surrounding and including the summit is occupied by Mount Washington State Park.
'Call me Pink Sparkly And All Things Nice' says name change salon owner
The Nottingham, England mother of three, who goes by the shortened version of her name, Pink Nice, is just one of 100,000 Brits who decided to change their name this year.

She admits that she is obsessed with the color, wears mostly pink clothes and has decorated her house in the color, complete with furnishings.

The salon worker even decked her business out entirely in the color and even uses pink wax on her clients.
Her new name is far from the strangest name change this year, as two men from Nottingham have decided to create superhero images for themselves.
Daniel Knox-Hewson, 23, and Kelvin Borbidge, 22, changed their names with the Legal Deed Poll Service for �10 each and are believed to both have the longest names in the UK.
Mr Knox-Hewson renamed himself Emperor Spiderman Gandalf Wolverine Skywalker Optimus Prime Goku Sonic Xavier Ryu Cloud Superman Heman Batman Thrash.

California Family Answers Litle Girl's 'Air Mail' to Santa..Heart Warming!!
A 5-year-old girl from suburban Seattle sent a letter to Santa attached to two pink balloons, and it ended up in the hands of a Northern California ranching family who say they'll make the girl's wishes come true.
Helen Cardenas, of Auburn, wrote the note in Spanish, asking for a doll, a tea set, shoes and pants, KOMO-TV reported.
Her mother, Rosa Cardenas de Beyes, helped send the note Dec. 2. She said she has been out of work and cash has been tight.
"I didn't know what to do," Cardenas de Beyes said. "So I always told her we would send a balloon to Santa because that was a tradition when I was little."
The note ended up nearly 700 miles away, in Laytonville, Calif.
"My son Lane just came home from Christmas, so we were out on the four-wheeler in the middle of our 17,000-acre ranch, when we saw what we thought was garbage," said Frank Sanderson.
"Para Papa Diosito," the letter began, scrawled in Helen's handwriting.
A Spanish-speaking ranch hand translated the letter and called the phone number that was written along with an address. The Sanderson family drove to the nearest shopping mall to find gifts for the little girl, and they planned to ship them Friday.
"We're just hoping the gifts get there before Christmas," Julie Sanderson said. "For the balloons to make it this far down here and for us to find it, is just unbelievable."
Frosty the Snowman kidnapped.. returned to family two weeks later
Frosty the snowman has made a triumphant return after being held captive for almost two weeks. The thieves sent the family a ransom note and also emailed photos of Frosty at the pub, go-karting and motorbike riding.
The beloved Christmas decoration was returned to his family in Bendigo, Australia, yesterday bearing the signs of two weeks of heavy partying. Owner Sarah Murley said Frosty was doing well after his adventures.
"He has a burn mark to his backside that's either been caused by a blowtorch or a cigarette burn so there might have been a bit of interrogating going on we think,'' Mrs Murley said. "He had a bit of mustard on his foot from a trip to McDonalds from a cheeseburger and the tip of his carrot nose is a bit burnt as well.''
Mrs Murley said her husband Duncan and their four children were relieved to have him home. "We were just ecstatic, it was great, everyone was just punching the air, it was great.''

Hans Grapje was raised in a Catholic school in The Hague and, as a young man, aspired to become a priest, but was drafted into the Army during WWII and spent two years co-piloting B17s until his aircraft was shot down in 1943 and he lost his left arm. Captain Grapje spent the rest of the war as a chaplain, giving spiritual aid to soldiers, both Allied and enemy. After the war, he became a priest, serving as a missionary in Africa, piloting his own plane (in spite of his handicap) to villages across the continent. In 1997, Father Grapje was serving in Zimbabwe when an explosion in a silver mine caused a cave-in. Archbishop Grapje went down into the mine to administer last rights to those too severely injured to move. Another shaft collapsed, and he was buried for three days, suffering multiple injuries, including the loss of his right eye. The high silver content in the mine's air gave him purpura, a life-long condition characterized by purplish skin blotches. Although Cardinal Grapje devoted his life to the service of God as a scholar, mentor, and holy man, church leaders agree: he will never ascend to the Papacy. No one wants a one-eyed, one-armed, flying purple Papal leader.

After missing for seven years, Indonesian tsunami victim finds way home
A 15-year-old girl who was considered lost in the tsunami that engulfed Aceh in December 2004 proves to be still alive and has found her way back to her home in Lr Sangkis, Ujong Baroh village, West Aceh.
Wati was eight years old when Ujong Baroh village was hit by the tsunami. Her mother, Yusniar, was trying to take her and her two siblings to a safe place but somehow she lost her grip on her mother`s arm and was carried away by the rushing waters, leaving her mother powerless to help her.
Yusniar was able to save her two other children but she and the rest of the family eventually had to resign themselves to the notion that Wati was lost as she never returned nor had anybody in the neigborhood seen her again dead or alive.
But on Wednesday, Ibrahim, Wati`s grandfather in Meulaboh city received an acquaintance at his home who was accompanied by a teenaged girl wearing a blue head scarf. The acquaintance said the girl had come to the Simpang Pelor coffee shop where she just sat in silence. People thought she was a beggar and tried to engage her in conversation.
She claimed she had come to Meulaboh by bus from Banda Aceh and was trying to find her way back home but did not know how. She also could not remember any of her parents` or relatives` names except Ibrahim.
After listening to the acquintance`s account, Ibrahim immediately sensed the girl could be his long lost grandchild and, after a closer look at the dark-skinned girl, was indeed convinced she was Wati who went missing in the tsunami seven years ago,
Ibrahim then sent word to Yusniar and her husband Yusuf to come to his home and meet Wati. The two parents confirmed Wati`s identity after recognizing a small mole and a scar over her eyebrow that Wati got when she was six years old.
What had happened to Wati after she was carried away by the tsunami currents was not immediately disclosed to reporters except that over the years she had been to places in other districts in Aceh province. (*)

This Ain't Write: Pen removed from woman’s stomach after 25 years and still works
A 76-year-old British woman recently had a pen removed from her stomach, and doctors were shocked to discover that after 25 years of gestation the pen still works.
The British Medical Journal Case Reports chronicled the medical case of the woman, who has not been identified, was sent to a GI specialist after various symptoms, including weight loss. When doctors scanned the woman's intestinal tract, they discovered, "A linear foreign body in the stomach." After the discovery, the woman said she remembered accidentally swallowing a black felt-tip pen, more than a quarter century ago.
While the pen was corroded after two decades of exposure to stomach acid, it still contained usable ink and could be used for writing.
More from the report by Dr. Oliver Richard Waters: While she was interrogating a spot on her tonsil with the pen she slipped, fell and swallowed the pen by mistake. Her husband and general practitioner dismissed her story and plain abdominal films done at the time were reported as normal. A gastroscopy demonstrated a plastic felt-tip pen sitting in the lumen of the stomach without evidence of any gastric damage.
Even though the pen was apparently not related to the woman's current health issues, doctors went ahead and removed it anyway. In perhaps a bit of dry humor, Dr. Waters concluded in his report:
This case highlights that plain abdominal x-rays may not identify ingested plastic objects and occasionally it may be worth believing the patient's account however unlikely it may be.
Unmarried Twins Give Birth Minutes Apart // Mother, Daughter Give Birth 6 Hours Apart
Twin sisters have given birth to their first children just minutes apart in the same hospital... and they both had boys.
Danielle and Nicole Fisher, 23, from New Jersey were in adjacent rooms when they gave birth just minutes apart.
The sisters, who were born within 12 minutes of each other, insist they had not planned to get pregnant at the same time.
Danielle gave birth to Jonathan at 7:43pm on Tuesday, Nicole, who was not due for two weeks, delivered Maximus 13 minutes later.
'I just think it’s the twin thing,' Nicole said.
'It just has something to do with that twin communication.'
The twin's mother Lisa Fisher, who spent her time frantically running between the two rooms, said: 'It was unbelievable.'
Danielle and her boyfriend, Corey Flanigan, broke the news to the family first that they were having baby.
When Nicole and her boyfriend, Greg Woodman, found out weeks later that they, too, were expecting, they decided to keep the news under wraps for several months.
Danielle said she was excited that the two boys are going to grow up together.
'Who gets to go through something like this with your twin sister?' Danielle said.
'We have done everything together our whole lives.'
The twins grew up with the same circle of friends and have shared every birthday party.
But with their due dates weeks apart, even the sisters did not think it would be possible to have their children much closer than two weeks apart.
Past her due date, Danielle was induced on Monday and began going into labor on Tuesday.
To everyone's surprise, Nicole’s waters broke the same day.
'I was just shocked,' Danielle said in the report of learning her sister was in labor too and at the same hospital.
Danielle had been in labor for more than 20 hours, Nicole’s delivery happened in less than 20 minutes.
The women are living together with their parents in Clementon, New Jersey.

Mother, Daughter Give Birth Same Day
December 21st was a big day for 17-year-old Brianna Guerrero, she became a big sister. But she also became a mother.
Brianna Guerrero gave birth to a healthy 9 pound 9 ounce son named Ayden at 6:52 a.m. Wednesday, only 6 hours after her mother, Jessica Rotter, gave birth to Ayden's uncle. The mother and daughter pair, who were not due to deliver on the same day, gave birth one room apart at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, Ill.
"This is the first time I've seen this," said Dr. Alex Lipovich, Brianna and Jessica's doctor. "I've had mothers and daughter who were pregnant at the same time in my practice before, but to deliver within a few hours of each other is a first."
The births went smoothly according to Lipovich, and both new mothers were very happy about the additions to their family, "although the mother was little disappointed that she couldn't be there to comfort her daughter."
Both children are expected to be released from the hospital today, just in time to be home for the holidays.
Teacher Stabs Another With Screwdriver At New York High School
A Poughkeepsie High School teacher was hospitalized Thursday morning, while another teacher - who is accused of stabbing her - was in police custody,
According to reports, the two teachers, identified as Cynthia Glozier and Ronette Ricketts, became involved in a verbal dispute which escalated and resulted in the stabbing of Glozier.
Authorities tell the Poughkeepsie Journal, Ricketts stabbed Glozier with a Philips screwdriver.
The incident happened sometime before 10 a.m. and prompted school officials to place the school on lock down while they investigated. The lock down lasted until 11:15 a.m.
It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the dispute between the women, who both work as full-time English teachers at the school.
Glozier, 52, is reportedly listed in good condition at St. Francis Hospital, while Ricketts, 40, was being questioned by authorities Thursday afternoon.
No students were involved in the incident. School officials say classes will continue as scheduled.

Two former state workers will be charged in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found two days after she drowned in a murky Massachusetts swimming pool, a prosecutor announced Wednesday.
Marie Joseph, 36, died in the Fall River pool June 26. Officials have said Shanahan and Carter shouldn't have kept the pool open and accessible to children while the water was too cloudy for safe operation in the two days before Joseph's body was discovered.

Ex-Teacher Nude Photo Plea: No Jail for Melinda Dennehy
Former high school teacher Melinda Dennehy won't be going to jail after pleading guilty Monday to a charge she e-mailed nude photographs of herself to a 15-year-old student at Londonderry High School.
"I am truly sorry for my actions and poor judgment," Melinda Dennehy said in court after the judge agreed to her negotiated plea to a misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure. She originally faced a felony count.
"I wish the student and his family well," she added.
Dennehy, 41, of Hampstead, could have faced up to seven years in prison if she had gone to trial on the felony. As part of her plea agreement, Dennehy's one-year jail sentence was suspended for two years on condition she remain on good behavior and have no contact with the teen or his family, or go to the school. She resigned three weeks after she was charged in March.
Dennehy said the matter has attracted widespread attention, some of which did not concern the students, "but rather, the allure of a sensational story, which has only served to hurt everyone involved."
Dennehy said she regretted that some of the reporting on what happened was inaccurate, and that her actions led to that reporting. Her attorney declined to comment when asked later what Dennehy meant by that.
The boy who received the photographs told police that Dennehy also sent him text messages offering to have sex, and that she kissed him on the mouth in a classroom at least twice in recent months.
Several male students, including the recipient of the images, were interviewed, and at least one photograph showed Dennehy with her genitals exposed, Londonderry Detective Kristen Gore wrote in an affidavit.
The student who received the photos told police he forwarded them to two male friends. He also told police that Dennehy sent him text messages "continuously."
Dennehy used her private AOL account to e-mail the photographs, according to a copy of an e-mail supplied to police, the affidavit said.
Neither the teen nor his family were in court. Prosecutor Kevin Coyle told Derry District Court Judge John Coughlin that family supported the plea agreement "and want to put this incident behind them."
Dennehy taught sophomore English at the school for three years. As part of the negotiated plea, she agreed to surrender her teaching certificate.
"I am hopeful that all of my students will go forward to live enriched lives," Dennehy said. "I plan to continue with counseling and treatment and will endeavor to lead a productive life."
Dennehy also apologized to the school, which she said continues to be an outstanding example for educational institutions in New Hampshire and in the United States.

Local police found their Sheriff, Keith Kellerman, 48, in the station wagon with J. Ian Stennett, 31 at 1:15am on Friday morning. Stennett's pants were allegedly unzipped and his shirt undone. In Missouri, being in the presence of another man who has his fly down qualifies as a sex act. The men are also said to have admitted to "making out."
The couple were cited with public indecency before being driven to their respective home by a designated driver.
Kellerman has been The Law in Pinkneyville, Illinois a town of 25,000 near St. Louis, since 1998. He began his career in law enforcement working in a correctional facility after receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1992.

A teenage Pakistani woman Monday told of her terror as her husband chopped off her nose and lips in a furious marital row, and threatened to kill herself unless the police brought him to justice.
The horrifying case underscores the brutal violence suffered by some women in Pakistan, where a domestic violence bill lapsed in 2009 after being held up in the Senate due to objections from religious parties.
Salma Bibi, 17, said her husband, 22-year-old Ghulam Qadir, subjected her to a beating, then bound her hands and feet with rope and hacked into her face with a razor in a remote village in the southwestern province Baluchistan.
"He repeatedly slapped my face and then went into the room and brought with him a locally made, sharp razor," she told AFP, speaking Baluchi in remarks translated by her uncle from a hospital bed in central Multan city.
"I started shouting in panic. He tied my hands and foot with a rope and chopped off my nose and lips," she added.
The teenager said police refused to register a case when her family complained about the attack, and threatened to kill herself without justice.
"I want justice and if it is not delivered to me, I will immolate myself in front of the Supreme Court.
"I will not sit in peace until my husband is brought to justice and gets punishment for the crime he committed," she added.
Ghulam and Salma married last year and live in the village of Karkana, 475 kilometres (300 miles) southwest of Islamabad.
Local officials insisted they were searching for Ghulam and would arrest him when caught.
"They often had quarrels as the girl used to spend more time with her parents," said Nadir Khan, an administration official in Musa Khel district, part of violence-torn Baluchistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has demanded action in the case, but many cases of violence against women in Pakistan go unpunished.
Human rights groups say Pakistani women suffer severe discrimination and widespread domestic violence, including so-called "honour" killings when a victim is murdered for allegedly bringing dishonour on her family.
Ali Dayan Hasan, Pakistan director at Human Rights Watch, told AFP that domestic violence is a "serious, endemic problem in Pakistan" and called on the government to revive efforts to outlaw domestic violence.
But he praised the current parliament for a "fairly impressive" record on passing other legislation designed to protect women's rights.
A recent law against sexual harassment, for example, is "some of the most progressive and cutting edge in the region," he said.
